Professional Experience

Robin Stoby is a Barrister at law. He was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn, England in September 1971 and admitted to practice in Guyana in May 1972. He holds an LL.B Honours Degree from the University of Leeds, England, and was accorded the Honour of being appointed a Senior Counsel in February 1993.

He has extensive experience of litigation in all Courts in Guyana.

He has served as vice-president, secretary and treasurer of the Guyana Bar Association . He also served for four years as a representative of the Bar Association on the membership of the Council of Legal Education of the West Indies. He has been since 1983, Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of Denmark. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Legal Practitioners Committee; he is also Chairman of one of Guyana’s largest Banks.

He has been engaged in non-contentious matters dealing with banking and finance law including preparation and filing of collateral securities; general commercial law, preparation of agreements of various kinds for use in business relations; contract law; insurance law, claims and disputes; pension and national insurance; company creation, administration receivership, and dissolution; mining agreements and documentation for the processing of mining claims; land matters including conveyances and transfer of titles; probate and deceased persona estate administration. His current clients include banks, insurance companies and other corporate and non corporate clients.

In litigious matters, he has practiced in the same areas and additionally has been retained to conduct trials in land disputes, prescriptive title, disputes arising from agreements of sale and purchase, administration actions, landlord and tenant, and other contentious litigation from the High Court of the Supreme Court through to the Caribbean Court of Justice.
